TrISSP

TrISSP is an evidence based training and education package to enable teams to manage stressful and emotionally challenging work environments. Key aims of TrISSP training are:

  • To enhance the knowledge of what trauma is and how individuals may respond following a potentially traumatic event.

  • To be able to identify the signs that an individual is struggling following a distressing event.

  • To offer resources and signposting to individuals who may require more specialist support.

  • To destigmatise the post-trauma response and provide practical strategies for coping.

Bespoke training supports each component to strengthen a team’s ability to deliver the pathway. This is followed by ongoing supervision and consultation, which is essential to assure robust and durable implementation.

The training package comprises the following elements with significant flexibility in how this is delivered and tailored you your organisation. I can also deliver the ongoing supervision component with the eventual goal of the team becoming fully autonomous within the TrISSP framework.

  • Facilitator Training (5 days)

A comprehensive five-day programme that equips staff with the skills and competencies required to facilitate TrISSP post incident debriefs

  • Team Leader Training (1 day)

A full-day training session designed for team leaders. Training focusses on building skills and understanding in how to support teams following high impact or potentially traumatic events at work. 

  • Peer Practitioner (1 day)

A full-day training session for team members. This course explores common experiences in challenging work settings and provides guidance for supporting one another.

  • Blended Training (1 day)

A full-day training session for the whole team combining the Team Leader and Peer Practitioner training

  • Bitesize Learning Bursts (2 hours each)

Short sessions focussing on the ‘Same Day Defuse’ component of the TrISSP toolkit. This component supports teams to come together following a challenging experience to ensure they are supported and can support each other.

The TrISSP framework meets the requirements of the NHS Standards of Staff Support. These state staff should have:

  • access to high quality, post-incident psychological and welfare support from their manager, who understands how to ensure staff receive post-incident support and where to signpost staff to.

  • appropriate training to equip them with the confidence and knowledge to keep themselves and others safe

  • HR policies and procedures that provide [staff] with the right support following incidents and during any investigations
